Dissatisfied with the nameless Elves found in the original Flintloque boxed set? This article adds personalities for the Ferach Elves making them as interesting as the Rifles they were up against.
~
We were somehow dissatisfied that the spotlight was (well deservedly, sure!) on the Rifles... and moreover, we had to do something so that our opponents would actually WANT to play the elves. So we went on to give some more spice to the Voltigeur section in the basic box...
~
SGT. GAUTIER is an EXPERIENCED FIGHTER, who has lead this Voltigeurs section for quite a long time. He has received the order to hunt the Rifles to the bitter end, but he also has to keep in check the impetuous La Garde.
CORPORAL LA GARDE is a bitter enemy of Sharke, encountering him several times without anyone succeeding to kill the other. He has succeeded in being moved to the Voltigeur section who had received the task of hunting the Rifles and is looking forward to cross swords with him again... La Garde is EXPERIENCED and armed with a MUSKET and a SWORD. Special Rule: before moving, there's a 20% chance that, out of blind hate for Sharke, he will move at maximum speed towards him. If la Garde is within 10 cm of Gautier, this chance is reduced to 10%.
ARTOUS is an elf proud to be in the army, and while being AVERAGE he has career ambitions. For this reason he cannot stand sergeant Gautier, as he is convinced that Gautier underestimate himself- why else he has not already received a promotion ? Recently, he has received a last offence: instead of giving to HIM the corporal rank, a certain LA GARDE has been moved to his section! That's incredible! Special Rule: because ARTOUS despises LA GARDE, there's 40% chance that he will ignore the moral check because of the death of the section leader.
MAREAU has been fighting with Gautier for some time and has learned to respect the wisdom and tactical skills of the commander. Mareau is AVERAGE.
DEVREUX is well-learned and literate and does not fully understand the reasons of the war he is fighting in. While he is a 'pacifist' in a sense, he does his duty as a soldier as well as he can. He has become close friend with a recruit, Lyonel. Devreux is AVERAGE.
LYONEL is a RAW private, but well-learned in the arcane arts, and he is gifted with MAGICAL ABILITIES. Devreux has become is best friend and the greater experience of his companion has been helpful to him to more than once.
LORAIN is a fresh recruit in the Voltigeurs, still inexperienced and wary. Will I survive long enough to get some experience?, he wonders. Obviously, he's RAW. Special Rule: any time Lorain try to do a non-combat special action, there's a 10% chance he will fumble so that the action will take double the usual time.
JOFFE is the prototype of the Elf imperialist: snobbish and haughty, he's sure that the whole world will bow to Elf superiority. The war is not only useful, but a necessity. No wonder that Joffe is RAW.
ALPHONSE has got into the army looking for fame and fortune, but up to now he got only to do the worst and humblest tasks. Will ever come the day he's called to some more glorious enterprise? Alphonse is still RAW.
RAOUL is a lazy fellow, always doing his best to carefully avoid any task requiring phisical exertion... and now that Alphonse is in the section, Raoul has become really good to get HIM to do all the tasks that should have done by himself instead. But everyone knows that the world belongs to the smartest. Raoul is still RAW.

Webmaster's Notes
These character were originally published in Tim Pollard's Flintloque Digests, a series of collected messages from way back on the 25th November 1996. They were first published on Orcs in the Webbe on the 13th October 2008.
However, they dissapeared when a prior regeneration of the website did not transfer everything over correctly, and they reappeared on the 13th August 2005. But then, they dissapeared again! This wrong has now been righted and it returned on the 6th December 2025 as the sixth entry in that year’s Advent Calendar and, of course, is part of Orcs in the Webbe's ongoing Flintloque Archive Project, bringing you fondly remembered content and long forgotten adventures from the world of Valon.
Any comments in maroon in the article above have been added by me either to provide additional information or clarity. In many cases I have also made small changes to grammar and layout and may not have not marked these.
