The Minon's Blog: Welcome to the Future Print E-mail

So this is the future.

First up, where the hell is my jet pack and the flying cars?

Secondly welcome to Orcs in the Webbe 2010.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support throughout 2009 especially all those who contributed to the site, but also you lot, the readers. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be doing this in the first place, so again, thank you.

This months's introductory blog contains the following things:

- A huzzah (and apologies) about the advent calendar
- Regular archive material uploads returning
- The monthly columns continue
- A new scenario every month
- An ongoing interactive campaign begins

As you're all aware each year of OITWs offerings culminates with the Advent Calendar. This years calendar being a bigger success than any previous year. As I'm sure you know things went a bit wobbly towards the end. By wanting to get two dozen brand new submissions online I bit off a bit more than I could chew. I've learnt some valuable lessons about time management and don't worry the format of next years calendar is already forming in my tiny little brain. Do not fret about the gaps either, they will be filled post haste. Firstly I'll be finishing my editing duties on Tony Harwood's "Mordreds Taste for Bones" and Ben Burston's "A Right Royale Boxing Day" scenarios. The ones which were to be pencilled by me will be along in a little while as writing and testing time permits.

So what's in store for you folks over the next twelve months, quite a bit actually...

First up is the return of my archiving project. OITW core reason to be is to become a one stop shop for all Flintloque material past and present. So with the permission of those kind folks at Alternative Armies every Monday something from the last few years of files from the Notables Yahoo group will be going online in fully searchable, indexed files for your perusal. So, can't find the document you know mentions a specific character or need to track down that Reloaded rule you know would fit right into your Third Edition game. Well OITW will be here to help you. We even have something particularly special, Gavin has agreed that as well as the Notables files I can upload articles from the excellent printed Notables Newspapers so they will fit right in along with the other articles covering Valon.

Also I know there's still quite a lot of content out there that is out of print or very hard to get hold of. Loads of it has already been uploaded to OITW but there's more. So with that in mind every Friday you'll be getting something found, scanned (and in some cases typed) then uploaded by me.

So two uploads a week, not bad eh.

And there's more, after their huge success in 2009 both of the monthly columns, Matthew Hartley's Tankard Tales and Gavin Syme's Inside the Alternative, will both be continuing throughout 2010.

And on top of that as I know you folks like nothing better than a new scenario, every month OITW will bring at least one new scenario for use with the Flintloque third edition ruleset. Most months will probably bring more but there'll be at least one for you to download.

On the scenario front, we're trying something a bit different this year that directly involves you lot. CJ Hooper's succesful first foray into the world of Valon, Love and Death in Llednevir, will be getting a series of sequels. Starting later this month CJ will bring you the next episode of the Llednevir Chronicles, one which (like the first one) will have more than one outcome. Then each month we ask you to play through the scenario and let us know the results. Whichever outcome is obtained by most people is what CJ will take as the 'offical' outcome and use that to pen the next episode. I hope you'll all take part, there will be plenty of rules encouraging solotaire and group play, along with suggestions for scenery and miniatures.

So with all that in mind you should find more than enough to keep your flag flying in 2010.

Welcome to the new decade !

Heya Folks,

Just a little update from me, sorry for the lack of anything major happening over the last week or so but I've had the dreaded swine flu! I'm fully recovered now and back in work ploughing (albeit slowly) through the workload that built up whilst I was off.

In Orcs related news my review of The Rarest Tin is coming soon, along with some nice little Orcs Exclusive web extra's for it from those kind folks at AA. There will also be more files coming across from the Yahoo Group to expand the Notables Archive and free up space here on the group, next up is the JOV's I think.

Ooo and as a small point I've changed the format of the email updates I send in to the various Yahoo groups to be non HTML as the daily digest does a proper cut up job on it. Do people prefer the HTML updates or is the new plain text update fine ?

"one whole hour a day for seven days. If it's succesful it may continue, if not I can say I tried :)"

Well and month a bit later I can hold my head high and say "I tried...".

Sadly I have to follow it up with "...and I failed". Real life has reared it's not-actually-that-ugly-but-very-time-consuming head and from the readers perspective I have made little progress on the site.

Thankfully behind the scenes things have trundled by and we are closer to the virtual magazine (but not there yet) and also have not one but five new scenarios in the playtest stage, one I'm thinking about holding back for Halloween but the others will hopefully show up long before then. As this information alone wouldn't be a juicy enough carrot for me if I were reading this on someone else's site I thought I'd give you a little glimpse of what they're about...

In 'All Ways Do Lie Open', a Frontear scenario, we'll meet McGrewhair and his deputies as they try to stop a attack on an armoured stage by the vicious Bone Gang.

'Hope' will introduce players to an as yet undocumented city of Valon, the cosmopolitan town of Hope and will look into exactly what brought the famed Paleodracologists Koop & Mursh there.

Linked to Dampfpanzerwagon's excellent blog entries on the Dwarf Sauerkraut Wars, comics writer Tony Lee has penned an escapade involving the legendary Dwarven inventor, Dwarvross.

'Reflections' - a tale of terror from up and coming horror writer Sarah English; set in the streets of Londinium a tale is told of a young Orc as she relives a horrific event from her childhood involving the mysterious Wishing Tree.

And last but by no means least an as yet unamed introduction to the beleaguered Captain Glee Nelsorc as he tries to stop the treasonous plot of the traitor Forcs and his plot to kill good Kyng Gorge.

And that's it for the moment, hopefully in between real world DIY and garden related tasks I'll get time to get some of these finished off - if you have one that you like the sound of let me know here and I'll move it to the front of the list.

That's it from me for the moment, don't forget to check out Matthew Hartley's latest Tankard Tale which went up this morning.

The Minion's Blog: The Writing Hour... Print E-mail
Written by Craig Andrews

In light of the mention of not much activity on the Notables boards I have decided to start this mini blog. The main reason is that some of the things I do for Orcs are not worthy of a full update and also I currently have no way of letting people in on what I'm working on at any time. That's what this blog is all about, I also have made the decision to cross post in full to the Notables group so any comments queries or suggestions please feel free to reply and I'll read them and reply :)

Today I came up with an idea for a writing hour, with my meagre free time being taken up with many things including house renovation, a couple of non Flintloque related miniature rulesets, my computer gaming obsession (PC and Xbox) and of course Flintloque itself; I realised that I have not spent much time updating Orcs recently. Well hopefully all that is about to change. I have decided for the next week to spend one hour a day doing things this for this site ! Yep one whole hour a day for seven days. If it's succesful it may continue, if not I can say I tried :)

So then today's hour (12.30pm to 1.30pm) involved a few minor cosmetic tweaks to the menu system so you can now find all the Orcs home grown stuff in one menu. Gone is the 'Home' menu option and in it's place is 'Orcs in the Webbe' which if you click still returns you to the home page however if you hover the mouse over it you are provided with a choice of options - You can check out Matthew Hartley's excellent Tankard Tales, my own Written Matters magazine reviews, a direct link to Advent Calendars of the previous years, all Site Updates on one easy to read page and also the site redirects page which is of limited use to you but much use to me :)

After that I moved on to typing up an old Orcs in the Hills article putting me one step closer to the launch of May's virtual magazine rack featuring online versions of old Flintloque related publications. If you have anything in particular you'd like to see just let me know by replying to this post !

And then there is this update, it took a bit longer than I thought it would but future ones will be shorter just keeping you in the loop.

Keep the Flag Flying !
