Black Powder & Bloodshot Eyes - Reloaded Print E-mail

Private Arris opened his eyes just slightly, and immediately squeezed them shut. The mid-day sun was so bright he had to squint just to keep his head from splitting wide open. He had definitely had too much of the local wine last night, and the fiesta thrown by the local inhabitants to welcome their Orc allies had gone on far too long into the morning. Around him, Ryfle-Orcs were sprawled on the ground in various stages of consciousness, avoiding the inevitable need to face today's hangover. At least they were safe. For the first time in weeks, the chosen Orcs were well behind the lines, and safe from attack.

Lieutenant Merde pushed his men hard. The Elf Voltigeurs were lost, and long overdue for their rendezvous with the column. His map, or rather, what was left of it, bore little resemblance to the terrain he was moving through. Perhaps the inhabitants of the village ahead would be of help.

Stumbling across the village common, Private Arris headed for a tree to requisition as his personal latrine. As he stepped through the village gate, he spotted someone approaching…

Map and Setup

There is no map for this scenario but the terrain should be setup to represent a village of six or more buildings (plus trees, hedges, walls, etc.) set in the middle of the table.

The Elves enter the table from the far edge, and will walk in a loose column toward the village until they spot the Orcs moving, or are fired upon. The Ryfles begin the game prone in the centre of the village, surrounded by the remains of the fiesta; tables, boxes and most importantly Dark Elf Senoritas.

Scenario Objectives

Here are the objectives for each force in the Scenario:

Sharke's Ryfles

To survive the approach of the Elves and defend the village.

Merde's Voltigeurs

To see off the Orcs.

Senoritas

To survive the battle between the Orcs and the Elves.

Game Length

This game scenario lasts 10 Turns or ends automatically upon the completion of the objective of either force in the game.

Victory Conditions

The Ryfles win once all of Merde's section are killed or have deserted. The Elves win by killing or routing the Orcs. The Senoritas win simply by surviving. The Senoritas can win as well as one of the other players.

Scenario Special Rules

Adding more variety to a standard battle this scenario uses the follow quirky and unique special rules.

The Morning After: To simulate the after effect of the fiesta roll on the 'tipple table' found on the Alternative Armies supplement “Distractions & Asides 1. The Demon Drinke” which can be found in the files section of Alternative Armies Notables Yahoo group. As they have slept off a bit of the booze use a -20% modifier to all rolls except Private Tunge as he is fond of a bit more tipple than your average Orc.

Where’s Me Stuff: The Orc player needs to place markers to indicate the locations of each Ryfle-Orc's equipment (ryfles, ammo and bayonet), which they would have set aside for the party. Choose a suitable location (under a tree, by a building, etc.) at least 6cm away from the Ryfle-Orc. It takes one turn for an Orc to pickup his things and ready them.

The Senoritas: They start the scenario unarmed, but may use improvised weapons. They may pick up a loaded firearm and use it (such as one dropped by a fallen soldier), but may not reload.

The Call of Nature: The Orcs start this scenario asleep and blissfully unaware of the Elves approach. On each turn, each Orc has a 10% (cumulative) chance of awaking to natures call. If they are 'passed out' as per the 'Morning After' rules above they get a -20% modifier to the roll. When an Orc awakes, he will walk towards the nearest tree, and spend 2 turns tending to business. When finished, he may move freely, but must explain each action first, and both players decide between them if he spots the approaching Elves. Sharke's whistle will wake all of the Orcs, and a gunshot will wake all of the Orcs and Senoritas, otherwise any sleeping Orcs must be mustered by vigorous shaking for 1 turn.

The Senoritas: Once they are woken by gunfire, each Senorita will run (or walk when required) in a random direction each turn. She will continue to do so until she runs into a doorway, which she will enter, and remain in until the shooting is over. If a Senorita runs into an Elf, she will attack. If she runs into an Orc, she will attach herself to him and follow him wherever he goes, (Place the Senorita behind the Orc). While she is attached, the Orc gains the following modifiers:

Moving -50%
Shooting 1 column shift right
Hand-to-Hand -2
Morale +2

Scenario Notes

This scenario was originally published on Tommy Boyd’s excellent (but sadly long gone) ‘Loque, Stoque and Barrelle’ web site.

This scenario makes a good demonstration game, for a referee and up to six players. The referee controlling the Elf Voltigeurs and the Dark Elf Senoritas, while each player controls one or more of Sharke's Ryfles. It can also be played with three players, the third taking control of the senoritas and ignoring the 'random' movement rules above.

I have added to the original text and also have made slight changes to the scenario in order to match Alternative Armies new scenario format and make the scenario more accessible to players of Flintloque Reloaded.

The original unmodified version of this scenario can be found here.
