Act I: Robbery with Violins
The scene opens with Turpins accomplices dressed as clowns, and musicians performing numerous tricks and playing jolly country airs. The signs clearly indicate that the events occurs on the main Londinium - Jork highway. The mail coach enters stage right, and slows as the passengers observe the show. Turpin enters stage left riding his trusty stead Black Alice ( wild applause, off stage ). Dork issues a call to surrender ("Drop 'um !"). Colonel Gutter ( renowned gentleman and famous blade ), a passenger, utters a stinging rebuttal ("Bugger Off !"). Mayhem ensues.
Map and Setup
The carriage is set up in the middle of the table on the road, the 'rich' begin the game in the carriage. The Associates & Dork are set up around either side and in front (but no closer than 5cm) of the carriage.
Scenario Objectives
Here are the objectives for each force in the Scenario:
Dork Turpin and Associates
The Highwaymen's aim is to kill all the passengers who won't surrender, and rob them.
The Driver, Guard and Passengers
The aim of these is a simple one, to escape this dastardly act of robbery with thier lives.
Game Length
This game scenario ends automatically upon the completion of the objective of either force in the game.
Victory Conditions
Turpin and his associates win by taking the valuables of at least four of 'the rich' and escaping off the table. The 'rich' win by getting four people safely off any table edge.

Scenario Special Rules
Adding more variety to a standard battle this scenario uses the follow quirky and unique special rules.
The Carriage: The carriage begins the game stationary, the driver can get them going again by succeeding in an Improbable Action, as he is average this means he has to roll under 20 on a D100. If moving the carriage moves at the speed of heavy cavalry, however if any of the four horses are shot, the wagon cannot move until the dead horse is cut free (which takes one character with a knife or sword one turn) and the speed will be reduced by 25% per horse. Moving off-road will reduce movement by 50%. Any of it's horses may be cut free (which takes one character with a knife or sword one turn) and ridden.
Hidden Muskets: The bandits carrying muskets start the game with them hidden as this allowed them to get so close to the coach. They take a turn to uncover.
Valuables: Each of the 'rich' starts the game carrying one set of valuables. These can be taken from them by an attacker if they win a round of melee and score at least one wound. Instead of dealing any damage they can snatch the valuables from the victim. Alternatively if things do not go to plan the valuables can be taken from thier corpse. It takes one uninteruppted turn to take them in this fashion.
Wylde Magicke: Both players should roll for magical abilities for each of their characters as per Alternative Armies supplement “Optional Rules for Magicke in Flintloque” which can be found in the files section of Alternative Armies Notables Yahoo group.
Webmaster's Notes
The second installment of this epic see's the introduction of Dork's beloved, Nel. It has been provided for your entertainment here.
This scenario is one of Matthew Hartley's Flawed Gems and I don't believe it has been published anywhere before but it was originally planned to go into the original Orcs in the Hills fanzine back in the nineties before it went bi-monthly (check out the back cover of Issue 5!).
I have added to the original text and also have made changes to the scenario in order to match Alternative Armies new scenario format and make the scenario more accessible to players of Flintloque Reloaded.
The original draft of this scenario (along with its other acts), with no modifications, can be found here. |
