Slowly the old man raised his telescope to his eye and studied the enemy gun emplacement, taking in every detail. One missed opportunity could mean disaster for his elite squad of bedraggled Finklestein Troopers. He turned and signalled Porta. To his side, Corporal Joseph Porta was unmistakable in his yellow top hat, with his trusty grenade-launching carbine by his side.
"Vot do you make of it Sergeant?" Porta asked quietly.
"Ve vill attack in two small squads - v'one from ze left und v'one from ze right. Ve vill have ze element of surprize on our side. Take Tiny, Bauer and Barcelona vith you. Legionnaire. Gregor and Heide vill come vith myself."
"I understand" replied Porta.
"Ve move out in two hours, tell ze others and get some v'est".
"Happy hunting my friend" were the last words Porta heard as he crawled away to brief the others. Now all they could do was wait for dusk and the attack to begin.
Map and Setup

The Gun Emplacement is situated on the edge of a forest and the whole area is covered in deep snow. The attack also takes place at dusk so visibility is poor (two column shift penalty when firing).
The Finklestein force setup as per the map below. The Undead force can be deployed anywhere to the south of the defensive wall.
Scenario Objectives
Here are the objectives for each force in the Scenario:
Finklestein
A mixed Elite Squad from the 27eme Penal Regiment has been sent on a dangerous mission to capture and destroy an Undead Gun Emplacement. A quick and decisive victory would open up an avenue of escape for the retreating Armee De Norde. It is imperative that this position is kept open as long as possible, at any cost.
The Undead
In charge of the Gun Emplacement is the Count Molotofski. He is notorious for his bad temper and aggressive approach to disciplining his troops. He begrudges not being given an Elite Squad of Licantzrop Jaegers to lead instead of the Horde of Rag and Bones he commands. Even so, he will defend his position at all cost, even if all his force is destroyed.
Game Length
This game scenario ends automatically upon the completion of the objective of either force in the game.
Victory Conditions
The Finklesteins achieve total victory if all Undead are killed or Molotofski is killed. The latter would put the Undead forces into total confusion causing a total collapse of discipline. Victory for the Undead is achieved if the attack is repelled and at least five of the attacking force are killed.

Scenario Special Rules
Adding more variety to a standard battle this scenario uses the follow quirky and unique special rules.
Undead Magicke: As a Vampyre, Molotofski rolls for magical abilities as per Alternative Armies supplement “Optional Rules for Magicke in Flintloque” which can be found in the files section of Alternative Armies Notables Yahoo group.
‘Vatch the Trees’: The Finklestein players can fire from the tree line but cannot be seen, however in these conditions its unlikely they will hit anything, but stranger things have happened.
Blizzard!: The conditions are terrible and it’s very hard to notice anyone approaching the defensive wall, especially with the snow drift being so deep. Each turn if an Undead is trying to spot a Finklestein character to the North of the defensive wall roll 1d10 and consult the following table:
Turn / Die Roll to Spot 1 / 10 2 / 9+ 3 / 8+ 4 / 7+ 5 / 6+ 6 / 5+ 7 / 4+ 8 / 3+ 9 / 2+
Due to the shelter provided by the wall there are no modifiers once a Finklestein character enters the compound.

Originally published by Alternative Armies in Loque and Load, Volume 4, Issue 2 (Summer 2002).
I have added to the original text and also have made slight changes to the scenario in order to match Alternative Armies new scenario format and make the scenario more accessible to players of Flintloque Reloaded. |
