Orcs in the Hills Issue 1 - Online Edition Return to the Contents Page - Continue on to the Next Article The introduction to the 1995 inaugral issue of Wessex Games Flintloque magazine, Orcs in the Hills. Hello, and welcome to the first issue of Orcs in the Hills, an unofficial journal dedicated to Flintloque - the Skirmish and High Napoleonique Black Powder Fantasy wargaming. Since it's release Flintloque appears to have struck a chord with many fantasy (and historical) gamers looking for something different. Well in these days of clichéd chainmail dwarves and football hooligan orcs, Flintloque is nothing if not different! One thing Mac and myself noted when writing both Flintloque, and subsequently Deadloque, was the amount of ideas that sprung to mind, often taking us at extremely diverse tangents when we chatted them through (...would you believe Zulu halflings?!). Given the fact that the gaming public have taken favourably to Flintloque and they too have a plethora of excellent ideas for extending and developing the game and background, it seemed logical that some vehicle should exist to explore these - hopefully Orcs in the Hills is that vehicle... Orcs in the Hills is unofficial, but does have Alternative Armies approval and support. All it needs now is yours. Please send us your ideas for the background development, new rules mechanisms, scenarios, battle reports, comments, figure wants etc. Essentially - anything Flintloque... I hope you liked Orcs in the Hills and found it of interest. In future we'll endeavour to keep you up to date with new developments by Alternative, as well as give you some enjoyable reading and inspiration...
