A Chance of Ruination

(or 'How Demadotte Got Sand in His Eye')

It had been a long two weeks in the far south of Aegypt. Two weeks of feints and lures that had been ignored by these Elves who were so far from their depots in Kairoh. Khamsin and his warriors had separated from Usak Manzarra in hopes of tracking down Demedotte after the Ferach Major had eluded them in the dunes of Hudaff...

They had succeeded and Khamsin had sent word to the rest of his Othari to join him at Geleka where the Ferach were busy digging pointless holes in the sands around the ruins. Demedotte had some strange soldiers with him who carried crates and seemed very skilled in digging, Khamsin assumed they were labouring slaves but they held their heads high; their words held in importance by the Major. To hurt Demedotte would be easy enough, these labouring Elves seemed unarmed and if he was to kill them then the Major would be foiled and one-step closer to disgrace and death. By a stroke of misfortune Usak and his Household Warriors had been too late to join up with Khamsin, they were a long distance off on the opposite side of the Ferach held ground. Khamsin knew though that once he attacked, Usak and his Otters would join the battle. The Elves must not be allowed to hold the soil that they seemed to desire, the crates did not matter but Demedotte must be put to flight and his troops with him.

Speed was essential to the Othari for more Ferach were nearby and the sounds of battle would surely
draw them out. Though Khamsin wished to kill all of the Armorica invaders that he possible could, he knew their skill with black powder and hoped that by provoking Demedotte the Major would come into the desert and provide Khamsin with the chance to deal a fatal blow.

Khamsin was however confident, had he not already proven that the mighty invaders could bleed and die like all others. He had a good number of warriors and what was more, some even had muskets recently given by the Orcs of Albion instead of Jeziels. Sanbids would kill well but the lead ball struck from afar. Khamsin had even been able to persuade a couple of Camel Riders to assist him in return for the gold that he had taken in Seddiman.

Looking into the ruins Khamsin could see his foes, Demedotte and his temporary ally from Hudaff, the massive Ogre Oskar Leibschnitz along with some infantry from the 42eme Regt de Ligne. In addition he could see some very uncomfortable Todoroni, their skin blistering in the sun. Khamsin laughed, soon water would be the least of their troubles!
