Orcs in the Webbe

Something Different for Joomla!

Orcs in the Webbe is an online resource for miniature gamers who play games which can loosely be grouped together by the phrase 'Black Powder Fantasy'. This means anything where gunpowder based weaponry is mixed with fantasy elements such as Orcs or magic. Originally intended to be an online archive of the original Flintloque magazine Orcs in the Hills (hence the name), it soon became a general site to support Alternative Armies (AA) Napoleonique skirmish game Flintloque and in the last few year through some different incarnations it's become quite a bit more than that.

Flintloque has a lot to answer for. Way back in 1996 it started me and a good swath of my university chums on a wargaming path that could have otherwise been swept up by, shall we say, more commercial games that whilst good didn't have the same feel as Flintloque. It probably helped lower my final grade and eat into my student grant too (yep, we got them back then), but it was a top game with good miniatures so it didn't matter ;)

It seemed to peak back in the early years of the new millennium (I refuse to call them the naughties) and for a while it nearly disappeared altogether as the last remaining few watched the Flintloque eGroup slowly dwindle into obscurity. Now thanks to the renewed enthusiasm and talent of the people at Alternative Armies it's back and along with it's official sequel, Frontear, it's growing every month and it's now looking better than ever.

As with most games, Flintloque has had a lot of material produced for it both professionally and by its fans over the years. Unfortunately, due to many different factors (not the least of which is simply the passage of time) a lot of the material has disappeared. Some of it we'll never see again.

Orcs in the Webbe provides a single place where people can jump on and find a variety of information; some of which originally helped elevate Flintloque from an excellent game to a remarkable one. Who knows you might even find that special scenario you remember playing but haven't been able to find for the last ten years.

It's not just for Flintloque either, to quote the back cover of the original 'Orcs in the Hills' magazine this site is for anything related to '..Flintloque and other Black Powder Fantasy' so you'll see coverage of the other games from AA as well as games from other publishers that seem to fit in with the general feel of the site.

Since version 4 of Orcs I decided to try something new as well, you can now find new content never before seen anywhere else !

Some of the 'classic' items are presented here have been updated and rejigged to fit in with AA's current rulesets Frontear and Flintloque Reloaded. This means they have been amended, changed and in some instances significantly re-written but I have also made an effort to also present them as they were originally found, with only grammatical and spelling edits. The updated articles can be found under the Reloaded Scenarios option under the Flintloque menu option.

I think it's worth nothing permissions and use of older files as some of the older informationis presented here without the direct permission of the authors but I have credited them where possible. If you spot an incorrect credit or if its one of yours and don't mind if its included let me know and I'll update the pages.

I am still searching for old articles and scenarios so if you have any please do forward them and I'll add them to the repository here. I am also looking for new submissions. So send your stuff in and if it fits I'll publish it here. Now, sit back explore the site and enjoy, any suggestions etc send them through.

Keep the flag flying !
